Balance body, mind and soul throught this ancient Indian discipline.

"Balancing Stick Pose" Tulandansasana.
The Goal of Yoga is to create in the Yoginis (practicioners of Yoga) an attainment of a state of perfect spiritual insight and tranquility. The name "Yoga" means literally in Sanskrit "Yoke" or to join, unite or attach. For believers in Hindu religion, Yoga is used to be released from the "Sansara" or the suffering in Earth. In the west, Yoga is practiced to improve health, bring balance to the life and clear the mind.
History of Yoga
Archeologists have found at the Hindus Valley figures in positions resembling Yoga that date to the mid 3rd millenium BC. In the Upanishads (Phylosophical ancient texts that lead to Hindu religion) of 400 BC. are the first references to the word "Yoga". Patanjali is credited to be the first to document the Yoga as one of the six philosophical schools in something to be known as the Yoga Sutras.
The practice of the Yoga continued during the develop of the hindu, the jain, the buddhist and the sikh religion in India through the medieval ages.
Hatha Yoga
In the 15th century, Yogini Swatmarama developed a particular system called Hatha Yoga which focuses on "Shatkarma" or the purification of the physical body as leading to the purification of the mind (Ha) and "Prana" or vital energy (tha). This style of yoga developed the use of "Asanas" or physical, full body postures. Hatha Yoga practice involved physical exercise, breathing and meditation.
Modern History of Yoga
Yoga came to the attention of the west until the 19th century, together with a popularity in Hindu philosophy. The term Yoga was associated to Hatha Yoga and its asanas. In the 1960's and 1980's, there were 2 booms in Yoga popularity that created a great number of neo-hindu schools with new Yoga proposals.
